The town of Salisbury, in southern England, has one of the UK's finest cathedrals and the one with the highest spire, rising 404 feet. Cats were recorded at Salisbury Cathedral as far back as 1782. A piece in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal told the tale of a cat who made its way back to the Cathedral after its lady owner moved to Oxford. Kitty decided he preferred the life in Salisbury and made his way back over 60 miles.In recent times, one of the more famous cats was a friendly black kitty named Wolfie (after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). He came as a kitten with the lady appointed Dean, and he loved to wander the area around the Cathedral.Although fed by the Dean, he quickly befriended the workmen responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the Cathedral, especially the glaziers accountable for taking care of the beautiful rose window.
