Grant and His Generals (520 Pieces) by Ole Peter Hansen Balling, Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle
The Norwegian artist Ole Peter Hansen Balling painted this image of Grant and His Generals in Autumn 1864 as the Civil War moved into its final stages. This is the smaller version of the painting as the final version ended up being almost life-sized. The painting was used to raise funds to provide aid to sick and wounded soldiers. To obtain likenesses of the twenty-seven figures in the picture, Balling traveled to Union army encampments. Both paintings reside at the Smithsonian and are on display in the National Portrait Gallery. The wooden jigsaw puzzle picture shows the likenesses of: (Left to Right) Thomas C.
