Research and resource allocation play huge roles in this game, but I started Maelstrom with a strong background in Orion, and won Maelstrom on my first try. The user interface, is very well-designed.As overlord of the planet Harmony you'll wage war, direct intelligence and manage resources in a world where only the strong survive. Maelstrom operates on a realistic economic model. You'll have to build a war fleet within budget in your effort to defeat the syndicate. Your planet enjoys rich natural resources.
