The timing of this map cannot be understated as it was published seven years after the Indian Removal act of 1830 and one year prior to the execution of that plan, most commonly referred to as the Trail of Tears.The map lists all reservations of Native American tribes that were being moved west across the Mississippi as well as the dates of several treaties of native land ceded to the United States, including the land of the Sioux, Sac and Fox tribes that had already been relocated once before to make way for settlers in the Northwest Territory.
