What Does the Priority Valve Do?      Simply worded, the priority valve in the 10L90-E and it’s corresponding family of transmissions is the valve system used to control lubrication flow between the torque converter and the shafts/gearsets in case of a low fluid level or low fluid pressure condition. It’s responsible for prioritizing which receives lubrication flow and how much, hence the name “priority valve.” Why Upgrade the 10L90-E Priority Valve?      As you could have guessed, this is a common leak point inside the valve body. When this leak takes place, it can lead to direct failure of the bushings, bearings, torque converter, internal drums and indirect failure of many other things as it’s likely to cause high operating temperature.      Given these facts, an upgraded priority valve is absolutely imperative in any 10L90-E transmission build.
