"Purpose" dolman sleeve coat in "forest" long gradient check wool

Studying this coat rewards the viewer (or wearer) as only over time do you begin to realize that the checked fabric is a very extended gradient, starting dark on the right side, carrying over all the way through the back, and ending up a shade lighter by the time you reach the fabric that makes the left side of the body.
