This is a mold release for casting plaster in a plaster mold. It also can work for making castings in other rigid mold materials, but by the way it works it's intended for plaster. The stearate in the soap reacts chemically with the calcium in the plaster mold and forms a layer of calcium stearate on the plaster surface that sticks to the plaster forming an impervious, hard film. Essentially, it seals the plaster surface. Reapplying it in several coats when the plaster mold is fresh makes a better film. This is usually applied with another mixture of 1/1 denatured alcohol/water. Mix 4 parts of the alcohol/water to 1 part of the potter's soap and apply to the mold....(see more)
