All in all, I was surprised at the number of our pigments that performed well, giving some rich colors that I didn't expect! Whether this was simply because they were tested at higher concentrations with a white concrete mix (compared to "normal" large projects like floors or driveways), or because our white concrete mix was less alkaline than most, I don't know.The two most stable, "safest" pigments to choose for coloring concrete are the iron oxides, both red and black (we mistakenly omitted testing black iron oxide, but have several types of it!). There are other "earth" pigments (yellow ochre, sienna, and umber) that are not strictly iron oxides but are derived from them and contain relatively high amounts of iron that are considered good concrete pigments....(see more)
