This collection of T.H. White's four King Arthur novels is based upon the 1485 work Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. The legend of King Arthur experienced many revivals since his first literary appearances in the 5th century. Edward I of the Plantagenet dynasty used the popularity of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae accounting to tie his family blood line to Arthur and thus elevated the story into a national myth.
