Map of Rock Creek Park, 1921

Rock Creek Park encompasses 1,754 acres in Northwest Washington, DC. The park was created in 1890 by an act of Congress, making it the third national park to be established in the United States. Later, in 1933, the park became part of the newly formed National Capital Parks unit of the National Park Service. Rock Creek Park provides an escape from the city for those living in Washington, DC, and also houses the National Zoo.  This vintage map of Rock Creek Park was created in 1921 and shows viewers the complex network of roads, footpaths, and bridle paths throughout the park.
