De Martino, Ungrafted Cinsault, Itata Valley, Chile 2024

'Ungrafted' is De Martino's side project, focusing on sustainable farming of grapes grown on their own natural rootstocks.  This wine comes from 40+ year-old Cinsault vines, grown in the cool coastal microclimate of Itata Valley, which continue to produce a wine with power.  Despite its light appearance there is intensity here, with tart fruit and a long finish laced with iron and pomegranate notes.  Grape: 100% Cinsault  Soils: Granite slopes Viticulture: Sustainable  Pairings: Pulled pork, Short rib with pomegranate seeds
