
Dendrobium laevifolium Very Cute, Long lasting
Dendrobium laevifolium (The Shiny Leafed Dendrobium). Found as a mini-miniature, warm to cold growing epiphyte that occurs on moss covered trees in of the Southwest Pacific: New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Santa Cruz Islands and Vanuatu at elevations of 650 to 2400 meters (1,000 to 5,000 feet). They receive periods of cool rain and periods of hot sunny conditions throughout the day time. Beautiful, compact species with reddish purple flushes in the leaves and clusters of bright, deep magenta flowers around the base of the rounded pseudobulbs. Keep moist all the time but slightly reduce water and withhold fertilizer until new growth is initiated in the spring. Flowers can last for over three months under optimal conditions and the plant can flower twice per year or whenever the conditions favor flowering.
