But through it all, time spent in nature where she could often be found creating aesthetically pleasing but short-lived arrangements of stones, sticks, driftwood, and leaves, was her grounding point. On a mindfulness retreat along the shores of Lake Superior, Caroline discovered her connection to watercolor and the freedom of expression it gave to her in a way that she had only found when artfully arranging materials in their natural environment. The flow of the water and the unpredictable nature of the pigments across the textured landscape of the paper resulted in surprising details, some bold, some subtle, but all necessary to the subject’s beauty.
