Open (standard) nib Sheaffer pens from the Triumph era (1942-1949) are rather interesting. They were clearly not the focus. In fact, the first generation Triumph in 1942-3 carried no open nib models. The second generation had a couple of lower-tier models (e.g. Craftsman), the third generation brought the mid-tier Sovereign. It wasn't until the fourth and final generation that brought an upper tier pen in the Statesman. Sheaffer was certainly intent to make the conical Triumph nib the focal point. That does not mean the quality of the open nib pens was lacking. Not at all. The same Sheaffer attention to detail is evident. This particular pen is difficult for me to identify. This model pen is not in the otherwise reasonably comprehensive model identification guide. I am confident it is a Sovereign based on the 875 ($8.75) price code and the long, slender nib. The nib profile is the same as that of the Balance Sovereign. It is stiffer than the Feather Touch 5 nib but less rigid than the
