John Lockwood, an alumnus of Littorai and Failla, created the Enfield Wine Company with his partner, Amy Seese, in 2010. 'Pretty Horses' is their interpretation of a Rioja-like blend - in this vintage 64% tempranillo, 25% grenache, and 11% graciano from Rorick Heritage Vineyard (Calaveras County), Shake Ridge Ranch (Amador County), and Heron Lake Vineyard (Napa County). 50% whole clusters add brightness and a fresh fruit character. The wine aged for 11 months in a combination of 500-liter and 225-liter French oak barrels. The wine combines freshness and depth, minerality and texture, fruit and spice. It would be lovely with Peking duck or a rich vegetable stew.
