Schloss Ortenberg is an 800-year-old historic estate in Baden (southwest Germany) owned by the city of Offenburg. Sauvignon blanc has a long history in this part of Germany: It was first mentioned in 1871. Granite soils combine with cool breezes from the Black Forest to give a sauvignon that’s more stony than grassy; more minerals than green herbs. It’s a refreshing and economical alternative to Sancerre and other Loire sauvignon blancs, as well as a good partner to fish (especially shellfish) or Weisswurst.
