Coarticulation can be an effective strategy for eliciting vocalic R and these spinners make it extra fun! This packet is designed for students who can produce initial prevocalic /r/ in words, but are struggling to achieve an accurate final vocalic R. Coarticulation refers to your mouth moving in anticipation of the next sound(s) in a word. It can be incredibly effective for eliciting vocalic R because the child’s mouth is already moving in anticipation of the upcoming initial /r/ in word sets such as CAR → RED or HEAR → RUN. There are no childish pictures or graphics in this packet, making it ideal for older elementary and middle school students who are still working on the R Sound. This is a low-prep activity.
