This specimen is a beautiful example of crystal structure! This is a large and sculptural cluster which features lovely crystals of metallic brown sphalerite, growing off of a sparkling calcite and quartz-rich matrix, accented by a tiny golden calcite crystal and a tiny cubic galena crystal. It is a specimen from the Elmwood Mine near Carthage, Tennessee. This famous mine is now closed. The Sphalerite displays rich brown color with translucent orange sections, and the sparkling matrix is a pale grey-white. The tiny golden calcite crystal is a bright yellow shade, and has excellent clarity and light reflection. The galena cube has a gunmetal shade and graphic shape. The terminations on all crystals are very sharp and clean! The unusual cluster is self-standing, and possesses several beautiful display angles.
