The specimen was laid out after digging in the eclipse light as well.— Check out this unusual raw specimen with an attractive combination of minerals! This is black tourmaline (var. Dravite), and quartz, self collected from Powers Farm, Pierrepont, NY. The tourmaline from Powers Farm is a non-prismatic variety, which means it grows in a blocky and compact form that resembles a garnet, but is tourmaline. In this cluster, black tourmaline crystals have intergrown with rough quartz with a slight reddish hue. The black crystals really stand out against the quartz! The black tourmaline is deeply shaded, organic, raw, and displays gemmy faces. This specimen has a jagged and aesthetic appearance--I love the sculptural lines and eye-catching edges!
