How Avert Dry Flowable Roach Bait Works Avert cockroach bait contains a residual insecticide known as abamectin B1. It's also labeled as an anthelmintic, which is widely used in the veterinary field to kill parasitic worms. In pest management, this toxin is also an acaricide for mite and tick control, as well as a nematocide to kill various nematode worms. Avert uses this effective substance to control bait-averse and nonaverse cockroaches in residential, commercial and industrial areas. Abamectin is combined in a dry flowable powder and works in two ways: by clinging to the roach's body and through ingestion while preening. As the roach walks in a treated area, it collects the dust on its body and carries it back to the colony.
