Every year, a few films are released from June to August that become part of what you could argue are a class (i.e. - the Summer Movie Class of ‘24) and they get their place in the Movie Hall of Fame, forever associated with long nights, sunshine, and an overall good time. Then there’s a few films that are not just first-ballot Movie Hall of Famers, but generational films - crème de la crème hits that, both through how awesome they are, and how they have molded pop culture, can be considered “season definers.” And since we are kicking off our first full Summer Movie Season here at Popcorn Reef, this June we're starting with what we’ll argue is the film that defines the summer popcorn flick.
