Victorian Silverplate Nautilus Shell Utensil Holder
Originally created for use as a Victorian spoon warmer, we are of the opinion that this Victorian Silverplate Nautilus Shell Utensil Holder is far too pretty to hide away until the cooler months. Found at market in the north of England, this lovely holder's generously sized Nautilus shell compartment makes a lively presentation for flatware or serving utensils in a casual outdoor dining or buffet setting. A hinged cover rises to fill the cavity with utensils (or even a spray of flowers!) and a seashell handle at the back of the base helps allow secure transport to the serving area. Resting below the graceful seashell, a decorative rocky seashore-inspired base elevates the holder above the table, preventing the possibility of damage to the surface when employed as a warmer. Along with the host of serving dishes featuring clandestine hot water compartments to help keep food warm for serving at table, spoon warmers in all manner of clever designs were conceived for the very same purpose.
