But I’m A Cheerleader tells the surprisingly hilarious, traumatic story of gay conversion camp using a queer-centered cast, turning the closeted narrative on its head. Hot, sapphic love scenes will make you bawl your eyes out like a gay baby when you recognize they’re the first time some characters have ever felt fully free to express themselves. It’s my partner’s favorite movie, and has been incredibly special to me ever since they first shared it with me. (Spoiler) The happy ending filled with queer joy and supportive parents are a welcome respite from the times we live in here in Texas.
