C0007 - Crafton Hills Rhodonite Slab

This is a slab of Crafton Hills Rhodonite from Redlands, California. It is rare and no longer obtainable from the source. It is now only available from collections. We obtained these slabs from an estate in Redlands. Since we didn't slab this, we can't take credit for the saw marks near the pointy corner that appear in the dry photos. We did photograph the slab both wet and dry, and we show both sides of the stone. The pink area does have a bit of translucency and I showed that in one photo with the slab sitting on my dim flashlight, The pink color is a bit "muddy", that is to say it is not a vibrant pink color. The photos are very close to the correct color on my monitors, but  they can look different on yours. Crafton Hills Rhodonite, also known as Mentone Opal, is a mineral that is a pink to red color (sometimes with brown hues) often combined with black manganese oxide in interesting streaks and veins.
