Short’s Aster is a hardy shade loving member of its genus, suitable for drier soils. Its daisy-like flowers have pale-lavender petals and yellow centers, which turn a pinkish purple color after they’ve been visited by some of the numerous pollinators that flock to the late-season source of nectar. Its erect stems often branch out toward the top, where the blooms are concentrated. Its smooth leaf edges help distinguish it from most other heart-shape leaved asters, which have toothed edges. Foliage hosts several species of moth and butterfly larvae. Drought-tolerant. Freely self-seeds Sun: Partial, Shade Soil: Medium, Medium-Dry Bloom Time: August, September, October Color: Purple Height: 3 ft
