Island in the Attersee

The canvas represents the shores of Lake Attersee in Upper Austria (Litzlberg is a village and one of the islands in the lake). Painted a few years before his death and demonstrating a perfect mastery of color, the work is inspired by pointillism. Klimt painted more than fifty landscapes, especially at the end of his life, including several on the Attersee, on the banks of which he had spent almost all his summers since 1900.
