Marian was one of the worlds most famous contralto Opera singers. She is often called the voice of the century, but her beauty, her talent, and her resilience solidified her as one of the greatest Americans heroines to ever live. In 1939, Marian was invited to sing at a benefit concert for Howard University at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. By this point Marian had travelled the world having successful concerts and was one of the highest paid musicians of her time, yet Constitution Hall was owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution and had a strict white performers only rule. Their decision to not allow Marian to perform led to chain reaction of events that included first lady, at the time, Eleanor Roosevelt leaving the DAR and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt supporting an event where Marian would sin
