From 1942 through 1944, the Pennsylvania Railroad built 125 of the J-1 class 2-10-4 locomotives in their Juniata Shops, with the final 60 being classified as J-1a's. They labored on the PRR until 1958 when the first 100 J-1's were scrapped. The last 25 met the scrapper's torch the following year. A smooth and quiet runner, this is a solid example of this model, even if it does show some use.
