It’s priced similarly to a pour of George T. Stagg, so I was eager to compare. Nose: Grain-forward with a subtle sweetness, reminiscent of Heaven Hill rather than Jim Beam. Notes of grain, wood, sawdust, toasted bread, and honey-almond granola. Palate: Sweet and syrupy upfront with vanilla, almonds, oak, and grain. Mid-palate has light vanilla and citrus, followed by a slight bitterness. Finish: Short to medium, with oak, warmth, dry grain, sawdust, and maple syrup. Surprisingly complex for a 90-proof bourbon.
