
Cartier Santos Carrée "Slate Gray" ref.2961 from 1978
In 1978, Cartier redesigned and renamed the Santos de Cartier, giving the watch an integrated bracelet instead of the traditional leather strap. Cartier made the case and bracelet out of stainless steel, a true departure for the Maison which had only worked with precious metals before this time. As time goes by and we have the opportunity to curate more and more santos carrée pieces we have noticed some differences in the variations of this model, thanks to this information we know that this watch corresponds to the MK1 variation which has the 10586 bracelet with raised edge on the clasp, with adjustment by pressure pinion without screws to remove links and the flat hexagonal crown with the 861 stamp among other small peculiarities that we have discovered. The limited edition brushed gray dial gives the watch a very particular aesthetic, the satin-finished gold on the bezel is truly the most important detail as it gives a very masculine impression to the whole watch.
