The peaceful woodblock print 'Fujikawa no Matsunamiki' (Pine Trees Path in Fujikawa) is by Fumio Kitaoka (1918–2007), capturing a peaceful daily scene at Fujikawa in Aichi Prefecture. On the other side of the railroad crossing, there is a person walking her dog, blending in with the beautiful pine tree-lined street. Printed in 1977, this print boasts vibrant colors and striking contrast and was hand-signed by the artist in pencil on the bottom margin. Fujikawa-shuku was the thirty-seventh of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido road. In particular, to the west of Fujikawa-shuku, there is a beautiful row of pine trees that stretches for about 400 meters. The pine trees along the road provide protection from the summer sun and act as a windbreak in the winter for travelers traveling along the Tokaido. It gave travelers peace of mind. Even now, they are carefully cared for and protected. Technique: WoodblockPaper size: 15 and 1/4 x 12 inches (38.8 x 30.5 cm)Image size: 12 and 7/8 x 9
