** ON SALE ** The amazing abstract woodblock print, 'Tako no Michi' (Kite Path), is by Rokushu Mizufune (1912–1980). Its extremely large size is very rare, with a limited edition of only 30 sheets. This powerful abstract image from the mid-century is hand-signed 'R. Mizufune,' numbered 4/30, and titled (in Japanese and English) in pencil on the lower margin. Additionally, the signature 'Mizufune' appears in white ink at the bottom of the image., The artist’s father was a calligraphy teacher, giving Mizufune a deep knowledge of characters. Hieroglyphs, which were originally pictorial representations of objects, have become abstract and blend seamlessly into his artwork. The characters for '鳥' (bird) or '凧' (kite) are well integrated into the work. In this piece, the character for '凧' (kite) appears to have been abstracted.
