Meriem's Diamond Trellis Flatweave
This rug was handwoven by Meriem. Meriem is one of the leaders of the women-only association located in a village about 30 km north of the popular weaving town, Tazenakht. The Anzal collective was founded in 2007, and is kept alive by women passing the craft down through the generations. The Zanafi weaving technique comes from the High Atlas Mountains. This technique requires the highest level of skill and concentration. Each row is created with an intricate system of counting. This style is extra special because it's reversible; on each side, the colors of the symbols are inverted. This design intricately weaves in Amazigh symbolism. The repetitive diamond symbols represents protection from evil.--technical detailsSize: 7'-1" x 10'-1" (2.17 x 3.07 m)Rug Style: ZanafiPile: Flat Materials: 100% "live" wool; spices, florals and plants for dye materials
