This unusual Pear Briolette cut was designed by Lodewyk van Bercken, a Belgian Jeweler, in 1476. This cut requires a more advanced technique than round cuts, making Gemstones cut in a Pear Briolette style, very rare and quite expensive. This particular cut is mostly used for stones with color, such as Sapphires and some varieties of Quartz. This style of cutting was made popular during the Victorian Era and has remained so today.     The presence of the mineral Dumortierite can also cause Quartz to take on a violet-blue hue, which is extremely rare.
