Gomphrena globosa, commonly known as globe amaranth, makhmali, and vadamalli, is an edible plant from the family Amaranthaceae. Native to Central America an Northern Brazil, the globe amaranth originally had a magenta color. After the plant was brought to North America 1700s, white and red variants started to be common.
