Apollo Glow
As of right now, I have enough ideas to keep me painting for the rest of my life. Each day brings me more inspiration, but I’m already brimming with plenty of ideas to spare. When I finally focus myself on an idea at my easel, my process often includes exploring it in a small study first, just to see if I like it and whether it would be worth creating in a larger scale. I initially explored Harlem’s Apollo Theater in a small study a few years ago. Afterward, I floated on to some other ideas, not unlike a gregarious dog chasing a butterfly across a field. But this subject stayed with me because of its iconic imagery, gorgeous reflections, and powerful drama. I decided to revisit the idea in this larger painting, and I’m happy with its jewel tones and richness. Note: This oil painting is "fresh off the easel" and will be available to ship to its new home in late August. Thank you for your patience!
