Shortcut

A bicyclist shaves some time off of his morning commute in downtown Philadelphia. For me, this painting was less about the literal subject and more about the really cool pattern of light / dark geometric shapes within it. When I can break up the picture plane by playing with big light and dark shapes like this, I'm all in. This painting is a "cousin" to some of the cityscapes I feature from downtown Chicago, in which the elevated train platform helps to disrupt the typical compositional plane.
