Farid al-Din Abu Hamed Mohammad Attar of Nishapur was one of the great mystics and renowned poets of the late 6th and early 7th century AH in Nishapur. This great mystic expressed the deepest mystical concepts in a simple form through delightful stories and poetry. One of his most valuable works is the Ilahi-Nama (Book of Divine Wisdom), which contains short and long didactic stories. In the main story, the king gathers his six sons and asks each to share his wish. Through this, Attar explains that their desires cannot lead them to true happiness.
