Canaan Fir, Abies balsamea var. phanerolepis 10-14 Inch Tall Bare Root Trees The Canaan fir has the strong shape and green-blue needles of a Fraser while being fragrant like a Balsam. Needles have silvery undersides. It makes an excellent Christmas tree due to its high needle retention but also serves well for screening, coppices, wind breaks and woodland or meadow areas. Having a late bud break, the Canaan is less likely to be harmed by a late spring frost than either the Fraser or the Balsam.  Preferring loamy and sandy soils, this tree will grow 12 – 24” a year once established; reaching heights between 45 – 55’ with a spread of 15 – 25’. USDA Zones 4 – 7 and Zone 8 on the West Coast. Will grow in Full Sun to Partial Shade. *Canaan is not tolerant of urban pollution and planting should be avoided in these areas. Free Shipping to most locations. We cannot ship to AK, HI, APO, US Territories, or areas considered remote without a freight surcharge. Ships February- Early April. If you
