First Light Swamp Sunflower is a compact late-blooming perennial with fuzzy leaves.  The heavy blooms of small yellow flowers cover the foliage in fall until frost.  Best bloom in full sun in acidic and moist to wet well-drained soils.   Helianthus angustifolius acts as a host for several butterflies, including the Silvery Checkerspot Butterfly.  It attracts various butterflies and caterpillars which in turn provide food for birds.
