What is XiaoFa Tuocha? Tuocha is a unique form of compressed pu-erh tea that has a long and fascinating history. The term "tuocha" refers to the bowl-shaped compressed tea cakes, which were first created in 1902 by a prominent tea merchant named Yang Zi Zhen in Dali, Yunnan. The design of tuocha offered several advantages, such as preventing chipping of the edges during transportation and allowing for better permeability to reduce the risk of molding. By the 1930s, there were 18 tuocha factories in the town of Xiaguan. The term "XiaoFa Tuocha" consists of two Chinese characters - "xiao" meaning "to sell" and "fa" meaning "France". This particular tuocha was the very first to be exported to France in the 1970s, which is how it got its name.
