13th Colony Single Barrel Rye #744 "Mash & Journey Cannoli"
Back on January 18th, 2024, The Mash and Journey Whiskey Club ventured to Americus, GA to select our first 13th Colony Single Barrel. We went in with the mindset to select an outstanding bourbon, however we ended up picking a very special rye whiskey. With all the controversy surrounding 13th Colony at that time, it was great timing to experience everything they have going for them. A true family operation just trying to make great whiskey. With the help of patrons Adam Hinson, James Lay, William Wiley and Will Henderson, we tasted two bourbons and two ryes. The barrel we selected out dueled the bourbons and we cannot wait to bring it to the group tomorrow. Here are the details: Barrel # 744 Age: 8yr 6 months Proof: 129.5 Tasting Notes: Nose: Has a slight rye note that gets sweeter and more towards a bourbon as it opens up. Almond biscotti cookie opens up with chocolate, dark fruit, baking spices, root beer and slight barrel char note. Palate: Palate really matches
