Since the 1960s, he has employed drawing, printmaking, photography, and installation to address ideologies of freedom, post-colonialism, and the exclusionary nature of the art world, pioneering a more socially engaged approach to conceptual art. For this poster, Camnitzer references the water clock, an ancient device used to measure time through the flow of water from one container to another, combined with a non-functioning minute and hour hands made from simple wooden sticks. The ineffectual timepiece ultimately alludes to this current moment of global uncertainty, when even the most basic social and technological advancements of the last 5,000 years seem to be failing us.
