2020 Railsback Frères Syrah Bien Nacido 'Cuvée Speciale,' Santa Maria Valley

From the winery:"At first sight, the steepest “Z-block” at the Bien Nacido vineyard in Santa Maria instantly reminded us of formative visits to France’s Northern Rhône. After several years now blessed with being able to work with the beautiful tiny clusters of tiny Syrah berries from this site, we believe this vintage might be the purest expression of Syrah that we’ve received yet. In 2020 we increased the percentage of whole bunches in the blend, as practiced by many of our Northern Rhône heroes, and also went away from the total sans soufre approach that we tried in past vintages. At this early stage, we love the results, but after some years in the cellar, we hope this will be our most age-worthy vintage to date."
