2022 Angelo Negro, Langhe Nebbiolo "Angelin"
This is a generously red-fruited Nebbiolo from some of the best of both sides of the Tanaro River at the heart of Piedmont. With some of Roero’s best vineyards under their care, as well as vineyards in Barbaresco’s Neive and Barolo’s Serralunga d’Alba, Angelo Negro manages seventy hectares on both sides of the Tanaro River, with a focus on sustainable agricultural practices and preserving biodiversity despite the size of the holdings. The Negro family has been growing grapes in Roero since the 1600s, but it was Angelo Negro, known as Angelin, who expanded the family’s holdings in the postwar years, and his son Giovanni who enthusiastically transformed the estate, including unifying the region’s first dry Arneis. Today, Angelo Negro, eponymous grandson, is at the winemaking helm, focusing on the region’s indigenous grapes. The fruit for this wine was sourced from their holdings across the hills of Langhe and Roero. Once picked by hand, the grapes were macerated in steel tanks for 15-18
