The first is that my assistant Jade and I were talking about the way painters will often begin their paintings with an underlying wash of colour and discussing the similarities to some of our dyeing techniques. The second is that, in that conversation, we looked at one of Cézanne’s Mont Saint-Victoire paintings (below) and both immediately knew we wanted to dye something based on its colours.
