An attractive single page framing example autograph letter by Robert Moffat. Moffat was back in England during 1841 to raise funds and in support of his book. The present shows him a bit frayed, eager to get back to the land he loved, laboring for the salvation of the people and the liberation of the Bechuana from the slave trade. It is perhaps slavery that is directly in Moffat's mind in his prayer for the "civilization" of Africa.  35 Queens Row, WalmouthMay 5, 1841 My Dear Friend, Your invitation I have justnow this moment received& I am very sorry that it isbeyond my power to attendthe special meeting of yourcommittee as I leavefor France tomorrowforenoon.
