An exceptional and very scarce engraving of the father of the American missionary movement, Adoniram Judson. The finest engraving produced of Judson, it was drawn by Napoleon Sarony, printed by Sarony & Major, and Published by the firm, J. R. Bigelow. Produced in 1846, it was likely created to commemorate Judson's return to America in 1845, upon the death of his second wife, Sarah, to be married to his third wife, Emily Chubbuck.  The full sheet measures 12 7/8 x 17 1/8, matted, and housed in a slender period wood frame, bringing the final dimensions to appx. 14 x 18 inches.  We have never handled another example and it is scarce in the trade and at auction.
