late nineteenth, early twentieth century28" x 14", 71 cm x 35 cm This dark toned, short length of hand woven cotton is just beautiful for its richness of indigo tone and its subtlety of design.  It is a length of kasuri cotton which means that its yarns were resisted before they were dyed, so the textile woven from these these selectively resist dyed yarns yields a pattern which is manipulated by the weaver. In this case, the pattern is a weft-based one which is lush in dark tones.  The kasuri yarns are low in contrast to one another and the overall visual effect is a textural one even though the repeat shows a floral motif. An absolutely beautiful length of hand loomed kasuri cotton, and one in very good condition. Recommended.
