A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Egasuri: Large-Scale Images

mid twentieth century54 1/2" x 12 3/4", 138.5 cm x 32.5 cm This length of egasuri--or image kasuri--shows four fairly large-scale weft-based woven images. They are all depicted as tone-on-tone, a pale blue image against a darker indigo background. From top down: a hexagon or tortoiseshell with pine trees and kanji; a crane; a chrysanthemum sunset; a tortoise. The images as depicted are charmingly rustic and each one occupies quite a good amount of space on the length. Please do note a hole to the selvedge near the chrysanthemum sunset. Charming.
